A Parisian Look with a Plaid Coat

Last week I discussed the importance of basics with a twist and how they should make up one third of your wardrobe. This coat qualifies as one of them! Today I am going to teach you how to dress your own version of a tres classique Parisian look with the help of this black and white plaid coat! Black and White Begin with a black and white statement piece. Plaid, stripes or polka dots are all good starting points. I chose a plaid coat, but I could have easily swapped it out for a cape or blanket scarf instead. Although the options are endless, stick with either a top or a bottom. Think Neutrals Now that you have your B&W garment picked out, consider styling it with what you consider neutral accents. Wish List Wednesday: Travel Essentials

I can hardly believe it, but in two and a half weeks, we’ll be walking the streets of Italy! This is our first weeklong trip outside of the country since I started my blog so I am getting organized NOW! When it comes to travel essentials, the first thing that comes to mind is Mark and Graham! Now that I let you in on my hair “secret,” it is time to spill about the outfit. Sleeveless outerwear is a hot commodity. It plays a similar role as your favorite fur vest. If you don’t already own a sleeveless trench, here is why you ought to add one to your collection sooner than later. Similar to a vest or a scarf, one of the easiest ways to enhance a simple ensemble is to layer with a sleeveless trench coat. Maybe you’re wearing a solid cotton dress and it needs a little oomph. Or a body con mini and you need some coverage. I used a sleeveless trench to add some edge to a lace up olive dress. I think it did just the trick! The lace up trend continues to boom. All Gray Outfit

In my world, gray goes unnoticed. As a lover of all things color I often gravitate towards bright hues and blacks when I’m toning things down. Apparently I’ve been missing out because not only is the color gray simply chic, but it is also a great neutral. Here is how to wear an all gray outfit without looking washed out. Monochromatic looks are very easy to style. Simply pick a color and accessorize in the same or slightly different tone of the chosen hue. When dressing in a bright color, it’s safe to stick with the same tone (as seen here). With gray, however, it is wise to switch between light and dark. I accomplished this with a stone top, a slate bottom, and dual-tone shoes. I just so happened to have a gray manicure (and need a fresh one tomorrow), but nail polish and lip color is a nice way to offset the uniform color scheme.
