Looking for another item to add to your Thanksgiving dessert buffet? Wow your guests with Honey Bars! This southern delicacy is a delectable combination of sugar, honey, cinnamon, and pecans, topped with sweet vanilla icing. Aside from the mouthwatering concoction of ingredients, this baked good is rather simple to make.
Here’s what you’ll need to churn out this dessert dish:
- 1 cup sugar
- 3/4 cup oil (preferably corn oil)
- 1/4 cup honey
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1 egg
- 2 cups self rising flour
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 scant teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 cup chopped pecans
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 tablespoon water
- 2 tablespoons butter (melted)
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
Directions:
Mix sugar, oil, honey, vanilla, and egg in a bowl until smooth. Next, dump in the flour, cinnamon, baking soda and chopped pecans and stir again.
After that, bake at 350 degrees for 15-20 minutes – it will rise and fall. While baking, mix powdered sugar, water, butter and vanilla in a small bowl and whisk together.
While warm, spread with mixture from previous step.
Finally, cut into bars or squares when still warm.
Serve and enjoy!
A special thanks to Mrs. Alice Spurgeon, my husband’s 7th grade math teacher, for introducing us to honey bars!
