Miriam Haskell Jewelry: Craftsmanship at its Finest

Well-made jewelry is an investment. It is no different than buying a nice piece of furniture or a car. If you take care of it, you can pass it down to younger generations, and once it becomes an antique, the value may rise for the years to come. Rather than spending $30 here and there on “cheapo” jewelry, that only last a few wears, consider investing in some high quality bling by Miriam Haskell.     Miriam Haskell the world-renowed jewelry aficionado opened the doors of her first boutique in 1926 in New York’s McAlpin Hotel. “Le Bijou De L’Heure” quickly became the go-to shop for high society women to purchase custom-made jewels to match their haute couture ensembles. Joan Crawford, the Dutchess of Windsor, and Lucille Ball to name a few. During Haskell’s travels to Paris where she would hand select the finest beads and findings, she would enjoy tea with none other than Coco Chanel. It is said that Haskell’s “design artist,” Frank Hess would join the ladies as they discussed matters related to the fashion industry and upcoming collections.     Today, the Miriam Haskell company continues to run in NYC. Each precious piece is crafted entirely […]

Mesh Peplum Top and a Maxi Skirt

The peplum craze continues! I hope this cut never goes out of style because it is slowly but surely taking over my closet…in a good way! I just love how a good peplum top can effortlessly spruce up a casual outfit, yet can look sharp enough for some chic bottoms. If you need examples of this, look back through these posts: Denim on Denim, If the Pants Fit, When Life Gives you Lemons and Check That. Otherwise, check out my new Mesh Peplum Top from lulu*s!     I was immediately attracted to this top because of the dual textures. Why buy a plain ivory top, when you can buy one mixed with some mesh?! Right off the bat I pictured it with a pair of blue or colored denim. But before I went down that road, I decided to turn it up a notch with a skirt! Maxi skirts can be very flattering garments – slimming and elongating with the right pair of shoes. This is especially true when you come across one with a slit. Hence the reason I was so excited to find the Maxi-mum Power Dusty Rose Maxi Skirt. This pretty is also available in black – a wardrobe […]

Stay Cool in this Little Gray Dress

When you’re trying to beat the heat during the summer months, there is nothing cooler than a breezy little dress. While temperatures in San Francisco proper may not climb to the high 80’s, the second you cross the Golden Gate Bridge to Marin County, or the Bay Bridge to the East Bay, the temperature rises significantly. Over the long weekend in Lake Tahoe, I plan to stay cool in this little gray dress.     The Sensational Anthem Off-the-Shoulder Heather Grey Dress is perfect for your weekend barbecue or a night of dancing with your beau. Featuring off-the-shoulder sleeves and a plunging neckline, feel sassy and cool in this flirty dress. The full skirt balances out the racy top half and the heather gray can either go dressy or casual. Since dressy is always better in the KK and GG handbook, I paired this hot number with a pair of yellow patent leather pumps, and a black and white beaded headband. I further accessorized with my favorite pearl bracelet with matching ring and my go-to black and white plaid clutch. If you’re wondering how to dress down this look for July 4th festivities, swap out the pumps for a pair of […]

A Black Tie Affair

Formal occasions are anything but routine. So when the opportunity presents itself to you, go all out! Over the weekend I had the pleasure of attending a black tie affair at the Academy of Sciences museum in Golden Gate Park. Not only was the space beautiful, but the exhibits were open for attendees to enjoy and explore. The food stations were very impressive serving up top shelf cocktails, delectable hors d’oeuvres, mini entrees, and a beautiful spread of sushi. Note to self: avoid chopsticks and soy sauce while wearing a formal gown….     With ample warning of this event taking place, I made it a point to take my time and find a stellar gown that wouldn’t break the bank. There’s nothing worse than spending a lot of money on a fancy shmancy dress that you’ll only wear once. With that in mind, I turned to my go-to online retailer, lulu*s! The Sorella Light Blue Maxi Dress was priced just right ($205!) and in one of my favorite silhouettes. This gorgeous strapless gown features a sweetheart neckline, and princess seams down the fit and flare bodice. Available in ivory and light blue, to me, this simple yet elegant dress is […]
