I am the queen of buying statement pieces without a specific occasion for them in mind. But there is nothing more haunting than perseverating over an article of clothing that you once passed up and `can no longer get your hands on. So when I came across this peach maxi skirt, I decided to scoop it up knowing the perfect springtime occasion would eventually present itself. While eager to experiment with a full maxi for quite some time now, finding the right one was rather challenging. The whole potato sack thing doesn’t look good on a five foot frame! I knew the skirt had to be structured, and fitted at the waist…not to mention the right length. When I came across the “Glam Stripes Cutout Maxi Skirt” by chic wish, I knew it was going to be the right fit. Not only was it all of the above, but the length was customizable and the skirt was constructed out of see-through fabric. A shorter lining underneath sheer garments is one of my favorite product features – it allows you to show off some leg even though you are covered. I truly believe this detail resolves “short people problems.” […]
After all your mom put up with and did for you during your childhood years, she deserves a little special treatment this weekend. Rather than a gift certificate or bottle of perfume, do something unique and truly heartfelt. Think about all of those times your mother had 100 things to and places to be, in the same day, yet she still managed to prepare your favorite meal for dinner. Pay your respects and invite her over for some wine and homemade appetizers! Not sure what to make?! Fry up some halloumi cheese. Find my recipe here. If you already have plans to swoon over mom at her place, then maybe prepping some apps and bites isn’t an option. If she’s got a sweet tooth then whip her up a cake! If she’s a chocolate fan, try this super easy Nutella No Bake Cake. If she prefers fruity sweets, try my other favorite, the Pineapple Delight Pie (pictured below). Rather than hitting the local florist or 1-800 flowers this year, make a project out of it and design your own floral arrangement. Check out this cute idea with mason jars. As long as you have enough […]
When you’re cleaning out your closet, there will always be items that you are a-ok with getting rid of, and those that you cannot part with. For that reason, I always clean out my closet by myself. I know what I love and don’t love so I do not want my feelings persuaded. The jacket featured below is a great example of a piece that I just couldn’t give up for the last decade. Houndstooth is no different than plaid, stripes, or polka dots – it will never go out of style. Maybe the garment styles and silhouettes will change, but the print itself will remain the same and classic as ever. After digging through some old jackets and coats, when I came across this oldie but a goodie, I knew it was time to mix up some “vintage” and contemporary styles. There is nothing more flashy than a black and white ensemble with a pop of red. Naturally, I went for the bright tomato “It’s a Kind of Magic” romper. I’ve owned this racy onsie for quite a while, but had a hard time figuring out what to wear over it, without taking away from its flavor. This […]
White apparel is everywhere! When I got married in 2011, I had the hardest time finding bridal attire. Maybe the season had something to do with it, but no way were there as many options as there are today. So, with wedding season in full swing, and wishful thinking that I have an occasion for these, I thought I’d share with you some of my current favorite little white dresses…with bride-to-be in mind! This two-piece dress set is perfection. The top features feminine accents and strappy back, while the high-waisted midi skirt adds a touch of sophistication. For under $100 dollars, stun at your bridal shower in this number. The modest bride will charm during pre-wedding festivities in this crochet lace dress. Feel comfortable in the retro silhouette and look good while doing it! The back features a keyhole cutout – adding just enough flavor and fun. This “edgy” romper is everything a bride should look for when coordinating outfits for her last fling before the ring. This bachelorette must-have features a white shorts jumpsuit and a sheer lace overlay. The waist features an adjustable tie and the back is low-cut. Bring out your inner […]
Although I thought I did a stellar job packing for my weekend trip to Las Vegas, sure enough I forgot one important hot weather essential: flip flops! While flats hardly ever make it into my “finished look,” they do come in handy for running errands, walking the dog, or getting to and fro. If you’re on your feet a lot, get excited because I have found just the right pair of heels for the girl on the run. When flats aren’t an option, the next best thing is a pair of reliable wedges. It is my pleasure to introduce you to the “Brunette” wedge sandal by Seychelles. These versatile shoes are available in natural vachetta leather, black, and rose gold metallic, featuring a four inch stacked heel. Thanks to the one inch platform, your feet will remain happy and comfortable during all day wear. If walking up and down the Vegas strip in 97 degree weather doesn’t attest to this, I don’t know what will! The feminine details make these kicks suitable for daytime or evening wear and the contrasting heel makes for easy matching. As you can see, I chose the natural vachetta leather, so […]
