Houndstooth Suit and Pearl Accessories

This probably isn’t the first time you are hearing it, but suits are IN for fall! They were all over the streets and runways during New York Fashion Week, and looking 9 to 5 chic has never been easier. From stripes, solids, houndstooth, to gingham, you name it – there is one for you. Now let’s begin with a baby blue houndstooth suit, shall we?!     If you follow me on Instagram then you may recall seeing this houndstooth suit! I could not decide between blue or the mauve until you guys chose the blue for me. In case you have no idea what I am referring to, Instagram stories allows you to poll your audience! Anyway, I listened to “the people” and they chose blue. I could not be happier with it! This pretty little thing is only $55 (no that is not a typo!) and the perfect addition to your fall wardrobe. But for such a classic print this is not your average houndstooth print set. That is why I’m attracted to it. I can never resist a dramatic sleeve or fringe hem embellishment!     Three years ago I discovered Shrimps fashion label while perusing the […]

7 Years Married; 7 Reasons Our Marriage Works

Time flies when you’re having fun…as I sit here writing this post I am in disbelief that Jonathan and I have been stuck at the hip an “item” for the past NINE years and married for SEVEN! I thought it would be fun to share seven reasons our marriage works in honor of our wedding anniversary. But before I begin, let me preface by saying every courtship is different, and I am certainly not an expert in psychology.     Age is Just a Number When we first started dating, our age difference only seemed to bother other people. It was never an issue for us and it has proven to be an important piece in our Kaplan family puzzle! Jonathan has a decade more of life experiences under his belt. As a result, he sees the world differently than I do. Jonathan is a very rational thinker – I guess that is what four years of medical school, five years of residency, and a two year fellowship will do to you! He helps me see things for what they are and helps me focus on what really matters. And yes, I “keep him young” but not in the traditional […]

Chartreuse Cape Dress and Rainbow Accessories

Have you ever worn an outfit that made you feel like you had super powers? Maybe it’s all in the cape, but between this dress and the purple and pink outfit I wore at New York Fashion Week, I feel like a fashion superhero. Does the ability to coordinate a killer outfit from head to toe count as a superpower? If so, I m ready to take over the world! Haha.     Chartreuse is one of my all-time favorite hues. The total opposite of pink, I know. But it is one of those colors that you can get away with 365 days a year, even if you follow the rules ;). The gold undertones make it easy to pair with neutrals (blacks and whites) and colors too…if you’re extra like me. The only color I would not pair it with is orange. It would be too halloween-y.     This chartreuse cape dress is elegant and chic. Featuring a sweeping cape design and lovely sheen finish, if you want to go unnoticed, this little number is not for you. I paired it with rainbow accents, mostly because I wanted to show off my new Kendra Scott earrings! These stunners […]

What is “transitional fashion?”

Everybody says it, but what does “transitional fashion” really mean? It’s a new season, get new clothes? I used to conform to those “rules” with regards to fashion. You know, the no white after Labor Day stuff. Well as I grow older (and perhaps wiser) I follow no one else’s rules but my own. I wear white whenever I feel like it, and sometimes even superwoman-inspired capes! But as we settle in to the fall season, one topic I see bloggers cover over and over is transitional fashion. What should one wear while it feels like summer but we’re midway through September. Allow me to explain how I address this nuance.     It’s easy to pack your wardrobe with the colors most commonly associated with fall. The greens, yellows, and brows. But this presents a problem if you are a lover of color, like myself. I wear a lot of vibrant hues and a lot of pink – regardless of the time of year. Rather than completely changing your color palette, consider switching up your accessories. Instead of straw, wear velvet. Or, swap the sandals altogether for a pair of booties (as seen here). It is never acceptable to […]

New York Fashion Week in Five Words

Did you accompany me to New York Fashion Week by way of Instagram stories? I sure hope so, because this year was one for the books. After my fourth complete season, I am feeling more confident than ever. For newbies on the other hand, this is how I would describe the week in five words: Glamorous, exhausting, fun, expensive, and rewarding. Allow me to explain!     Glamorous New York Fashion Week might as well be called “Red Carpet Week!” Insta-famous girls and guys line the streets dressed to the NINES and the photographers paparazzi stand there and wait. Call it a Kardashian lifestyle if you please! Get $25 off your service with Glamsquad – on demand makeup and hair with code KELSEYK25. BEST LIFE HACK EVER. Exhausting Imagine a job interview that lasts for five consecutive days. That’s NYFW! It is exhausting physically and emotionally. Your body is tired from getting up early and going to sleep late and your feet hurt from your high heel shoes. You’re emotionally drained after “performing” several days/hours in a row. But if there is one time of year for you to put your best foot forward, this is it. It’s prime time […]
