One of my favorite things to do on a whim is hop on the Vespa and scoot to North Beach, aka “Little Italy.” It’s the closest thing to an Italian “holiday” minus the 11 hour flight. With the Italian flag painted on every telephone pole and a pizza joint on every block, it’s hard to believe you’re not in the heart of Rome! But consider it a sin to visit this part of the city without dining at Tony’s. X Marks the Spot On the corner of Union and Stockton Street sits Tony’s Pizza Napoletana – home to the world’s best pizza. But don’t take my word for it! Tony Gemignani is a 12-time World Pizza Champion. Now that’s a lot of good za! Featuring a four page menu of specialty pizzas and provisions, even the pickiest eaters will find a pie made for them. It’s sort of a right of passage to wait in line at least one hour for brunch/lunch in San Francisco, but I’d wait three for this stuff! Antipasti Tony’s was one of the first restaurants I ate at upon my arrival to San Francisco in 2013. I was sold after my first bite […]
Generally speaking, I am not a flats kind of girl. I live in high heels. When you see the world from only five feet high, the extra boost can come in handy. However, my fourth year in San Francisco is quickly approaching and the hills are not getting less steep. Although they are far less physically challenging to climb! This spring I’m giving my feet a well-deserved break. Thanks to these ruffle platform sneakers, it’s working out fashionably well. I’ve always been self-conscious of my height. I have an athletic body, not a dancer’s body, so I know every trick in the book to elongate the appearance of my legs. Wearing flats isn’t one of ’em, but I’m afraid I’ll suffer the consequences later in life if I do not address my foot health now. Seychelles is my go-to brand for stylish and comfortable shoes and has been since 2008. I first discovered them on the job at Rode’o Boutique. I proudly owned at least a dozen pairs after that. Wouldn’t it be nice if more companies put the same emphasis on comfort as design? The Quake platform sneaker is a great compromise for the on-foot fashionista. I searched the internet top to bottom […]
When people ask me to define my style I find it quite difficult. I have always been fond of color and all different art mediums. My grandfather was an artist (also a New York Giant – I kid you not) and it probably influenced my interest in the arts at a young age. Growing up I would pack my school schedule with as many hands-on classes that I could get away with. Ceramics and jewelry making were my two favorites. So when it comes to my fashion style, it’s hard for me to pinpoint because I love fashion as a whole subject. For the purpose of my blog, however, I have narrowed it down to edgy! I wear a lot of black, but hopefully I can convince you that it doesn’t have to be boring or gothic. So what does this have to do with my pink jumpsuit, you may ask? Allow me to explain! After narrowing down my style to edgy, my gut instinct is to eliminate the color pink from my wardrobe. How could such a feminine hue be considered edgy?! Despite my hesitation, I’m here to tell you that it can be! You just need […]
Now that you know about my favorite Italian food in San Francisco, it’s time to discuss the appropriate date night attire. According to OpenTable, the dress code at Capannina is “casual elegant,” but I prefer to call it 5’clock chic! With dinner service from 5-10pm Sunday through Thursday, and 5-10:30pm on the weekends, come as you are and leave happy as a clam. I love restaurants that are tasty and “chill.” We frequent Capannina during the week nights on the patio in “work clothes,” and Saturdays inside dressed to kill. In the life of Kelsey and Jonathan Kaplan, work clothes range from barre garb, scrubs, slacks, to sport coats. The point I am trying to make is that it doesn’t really matter what you wear! Regardless, I feel my best when I am over dressed. With that said, I always take advantage of an opportunity to wear something spicy, like this leopard jacket. Last fall I bought a beautiful leopard and emerald faux fur coat in Italy. The ROI was great on this item as it became my go-to winter coat. Fortunately or unfortunately, it is no longer cold enough to wear faux fur in San Francisco. This lightweight […]
I often poke fun at myself on IG stories that I should change my name from Kelsey Kaplan Fashion, to Kelsey Kaplan’s Food! While it’s true that all day I dream about clothes, I am also always dreaming drooling over my next meal. I am not exaggerating when I say, “I workout to satisfy my sweet tooth!” Luckily for me, San Francisco is the Mecca of food. With nearly every cuisine an Uber ride away, one should never leave the city unsatisfied with the food and beverage industry. With that being said, it is my goal to amp up the Food section on my blog with an emphasis on the attire! I’ll begin with one of my all-time favorites. Tucked away along Union Street in Cow Hollow sits Capannina – my go-to Italian restaurant. If you’re looking for spaghetti and meatballs doused in parm cheese, this joint is not for you. Rather, this neighborhood gem features a menu inspired by delicious flavors straight from the Amalfi Coast! The food is a five plus plus, but the service is in a league of its own. The service Michele Di Ruocco is the friendly face behind the establishment. Most of […]
