Elevate your Mood in a Floral Suit

“Dress to Impress,” what does this phrase mean to you?! Does it mean you should dress yourself in clothes that that will impress others, or does it simply mean you should be thoughtful with the clothes you put on your body? I’m here to remind you that you can actually elevate your mood in the right outfit! Here are three tips to make that happen every time you walk out the door.

Think color

Yep, I said it…incorporate color into your ensemble and stand out from the crowd. Colors can subconsciously and consciously affect our mood. Think about it, when someone brings you a colorful bouquet of flowers you can’t help but smile. Well, whether it is you impressed with the vibrant outfit you put together, or the people around you, it gives off positive vibes. Tip: introduce bright hues into your wardrobe beginning with shoes and accessories.

Tame your Mane

“Dressing up” does not stop with the articles of clothing you put on your body. Set aside time to primp your hair. Ever since I was a little girl, bad hair days turned into bad everything else days! Like what you wear

I’ll be the first to admit it, I am happier when I like my outfit! Quit settling for mediocre ensembles, and feel like a million bucks in everything you wear! Dress like a Boss in a Pink Power Suit

Do you own a “power suit?” Technically that is not a real “thing” but what I am asking is if there is a specific ensemble that makes you feel totally fearless?! If you answered no to this question, we gotta do something about that! Today I am sharing with you my pink power suit that makes me feel like a total boss.

Fashion is my passion for numerous reasons. But most of all I love that it can totally lift my mood. My day can go from blah to great thanks to a killer outfit. And I do not mean it in a materialistic way. Rather, a good looking ensemble gives me confidence and makes me feel pretty! Sometimes we all need a little somethin’ somethin’. Think about it…you don’t show up for a job interview or first date in just an ok outfit! Maybe your power suit consists of your favorite bum sculpting jeans and a blouse. Whatever it is, make sure it’s a good one and have it on hand at all times. Mine just happens to be a metallic pink power suit. Surprise, surprise!

About the Fit

I love all things jacquard. It seems like the most glamorous textiles are crafted out of it. But what I do not love about this material is that it does not stretch. While this is not a total deal breaker, it can make getting dressed interesting if you’re bottom heavy. Style tip: Size up in jacquard bottoms and alter the garment to fit your waist and booty. Luckily I do not run into the same problem on my upper half or I would be financing the tailor’s business! The matching jacket fits true to size. Express Petite Collection

This weekend I’m setting up shop at Femme Fair for a full day of shopping, mingling, and learning. I already predict that at least three people who meet me for the first time will say, “I had no idea you were so short.” Every year at fashion week my size is a surprise! I thought I was transparent about it…”petite fashion” are the first two words in my IG profile. But in case you missed the memo, I’m five feet tall! Anyway, the reason I bring it up is because shopping for a petite frame is not an easy task. So when I was approached about the new Express Petite Collection, I was all ears.

Being petite means you have a very good relationship with the neighborhood tailor. It also means you are an expert high heel wearer, and that bodysuits NEVER fit. Well, well, well…Express has an answer for everything and for that I will forever be grateful. Bodysuits…check! Dress pants…check! Jackets…check! Remember last week’s yellow pants and off the shoulder top?! BOTH of those items are apart of the collection. Today, however, we feature jeans and a polka dot tee. Hear me out.

I have a love/hate relationship with jeans. Their touted for being comfortable and easy to wear, but they hardly ever fit me straight of the box. I am a pro at cuffing my denim – luckily cropped jeans are “in” this season. Petite gals rejoice because the jeans from the Express Petite Collection are a dream come true. The ultra high waist, actually hits at the waist and the length is just right. For once the fringe hem hits at the ankle, not the ground. Hallelujah! This may be the first but it is definitely not the last time I will invest in a pair of denim from the petites collection at Express!

90s Fashion Called…They Want their Fanny Packs Back

“What goes around comes around.” Chances are high that you’ve heard that phrase before. But what might be surprising is that it is even more relevant with regards to fashion! Fashion is cyclical. What goes out of style one year is the new “it” thing the next. For example, I’m pretty sure I wore this outfit (or a similar version) during elementary school. The only things missing in this ensemble are the pigtails and light up sneakers! It’s official, 90s fashion is baaaack.

Belt Bags

Belt bags, fanny packs, whatever you want to call them, are the best things since sliced bread. Get ready to take on the world hands-free with one of these little things. Gone are the days of black vinyl fanny packs. 2018 designs feature sequins, velvet, and luxurious waistbands. I take back all of the ugly things I said at Disney World way back when. #Guilty

Overalls

You heard right! Overalls are making a comeback and they are better than ever. From embroidery, colored denim, to lavish materials, these onesies make a statement without even trying. I think we can all appreciate an outfit that requires little to no effort once in a while. Now the question is, are you ready to look 30 going on 13?!

Flare Jeans

I have touched on this before, so I’ll keep it brief today. Clean cut skinny jeans are slowly but surely becoming obsolete. Flare legs, crop pants, and asymmetrical hems are all the rage. Pair ’em with a crop top and turn back time a couple of decades.

Make your Neutral Outfit Pop like this!

Neutrals are the ~~new~~ old but “it” thing. And for some of us, this is a hard thing to accept. I am a lover of color. It makes me happy and I do not have a favorite. I love them all! But in the fashion space, neutrals are top selling items, so it’s time that I dabble in them. And judging by the amount of likes this outfit received on Instagram, y’all are ok with it! So here is my guide to styling a neutral outfit.

Mix Textures

Mixing textures is the easiest way, across the board, to add dimension to your ensemble. But dimension isn’t always necessary. When styling neutrals or a monochromatic look, however, it becomes very important. Picture this, a white cotton top, with white cotton pants, and a white cotton sweater. Boring, right?! Now picture this: a white cotton top, with chevron white pants, and lace sweater. Clearly the latter ensemble is a more interesting look.

Opposites Attract

Normally when I style a look I come up with a theme for the outfit. Is it edgy, feminine, or simply chic? After I establish the theme, I stick with it to piece together the outfit. But when I work with neutrals or a monochromatic scheme, I always mix unexpected items together. In this case, the pants SCREAM boho. I mean those flare legs and fringe hem say it all. But to keep people curious, I dressed these jeans with sequin stiletto heels. They don’t really to go together…but that’s the point!

Act Shady

An all white outfit does not have to be snow white head to toe. What I mean is, it’s ok, rather, I encourage you to mix different shades of white (or whatever color your are working with). I did not even consider whether or not the shades of ivory would perfectly match when I coordinated this look. In fact, I was hoping they wouldn’t. How to Wear Mom Jeans – Even if You’re Not one

I do not have a human child but I have a Shih Tzu named GG and she thinks she is one. I am not even kidding…she stands on her hind legs and asks to ride my hip. Does that make me a mother or a #crazydoglady? I won’t be offended if you say so! No really though, mama or not, “mom jeans” are taking over the fashion scene and today is the first time I am wearing a pair on the blog. If you too are new to the trend, follow this style guide to avoid looking dowdy.

Form Fitting Top

Mom jeans are not tight fitting. In fact, I have yet to find a pair that even stretches. When you have a lot of baggage going on below the waist, balance it out with something form fitting up top. I am so confident I would have looked like I was wearing pants three times my size had I paired a boxy t-shirt with these suckers. Consider a crop top or a tight fitting bodysuit. I chose the latter and it is only $12.90 – score!

Hot Kicks

Hot kicks go a long way. Mom jeans with sneakers on a petite frame is not a winning combination. Pair ’em with a stiletto heel and now we’re talkin’! When you are styling a garment that can potentially come off as “frumpy,” a sexy shoe is a reliable remedy. I jumped at the opportunity to wear my Christian Louboutin sequin pumps (as seen here). I think they did the trick!

Fab Belt

Ladies and gentleman, belts are back in style and I mean belts of ALL kinds. Remember those “fanny packs” we used to poke fun at. Yeah, those are now referred to as “belt bags” and homegirl is rockin’ one loud and proud (insert laughing emoji)! I must admit, it is so nice toting your belongings hands-free. But if a fanny pack is too much for you, synch your waist with a traditional belt instead. See ya on the street, hot mama!

Unless you’ve been hiding under a rock, then you know that Pinterest is the search engine that all of the “cool kids” are using. Simply put, there is no better way to find answers and inspiration to all of your “out there” ideas, than through this extremely visual platform. Well, using their exclusive “pinsider” data, our friends over at Pinterest HQ have compiled a Top Trends to Try in 2018 list. Here are some of the top trends in women’s fashion – evidently I’m right on point!

Larger than Life Earrings

Should I pat myself on the back for this one?! I think my Gucci earrings qualify as LARGER than life (insert laughing emoji). I could not agree more with this fashion prediction. Sometimes all it takes to effortlessly transform an ok outfit into a masterpiece is a pair of statement earrings. Jewelry lovers rejoice! This pair is currently on my wish list.

Wide Leg Pants

I’ve said it before and I’m saying it again, skinny jeans are on their way out. Hello flare jeans! This is a-ok with me as this style of denim is very elongating for petite women #winning. Are you new to the wide leg trend?! Take this pair for a test drive – they’re only $58 and do not stretch out after a day’s wear. I own them in blue and black. What are you waiting for?!

Studs, Pearls, and Bold Buckles

Thank you Pinterest for justifying my latest Gucci splurge! Since this pearl belt (look for less here) came into my life, suddenly dressing is easier. When it’s not hanging on my hips, it’s synching my waist. And when I’m not wearing it, it makes a very pretty table-weight on my desk. Haha. Get Party Ready in a Shaggy Jacket and Pink Booties

Does this outfit look familiar? Well, it should because it closely resembles this ensemble I wore during New York Fashion Week! To this day I am still finding strands of tinsel around my house. I kid you not! Anyway, now that the holiday season is upon us, so are all of the parties. Today I present you with the December version of a look that literally stopped traffic in NYC. Hear me out!

The shaggy jacket is the new blazer. Shocking, I know, but it’s the truth! But if you stop and think about how you normally wear a blazer, it makes a lot of sense. Do you wear one over a dress or a skirt? With ripped jeans, or slacks? Is it just me, or does fringe effortlessly up your style game?! Next time you get ready to go out, consider topping your ensemble with a shaggy jacket instead of a blazer. Prepare for the compliments to roll in.

So what makes this look different from the other? It’s all about the black. As much as I love color, I must admit that there is nothing sharper than black on black. An outfit like this can go from holiday party to the dance club. It is best to dress for anything because you never know where the night will take you. Now because I cannot stay way from color for too long, I polished off this look with a pink bootie. Really any statement hue would have the same affect!
