Reinventing the Wheel with Ruffles

One of my jobs as a fashion blogger is to forecast the up and coming style trends. I already let you in on the secret that cropped pants are the new norm, and that lucite shoes are all the rage. But there is one trend that I have yet to delve into. In case you have not guessed from the title of this post, it is ruffle embellished garments.

Fashion designers are reinventing the “classic top” by incorporating ruffles. It sounds dramatic, but it is the truth! Go see for yourself. I am fond of this idea as I always keep an eye out for basics with a twist. This ruffle blouse from H&M is the perfect example. If you look closely, the sleeves feature adjustable button cuffs. The standard blue button-down blouse was totally the inspiration behind this piece. While I do not typically wear button-downs, I sure as heck wear “wanna bes” with ruffles and one-shoulder necklines. For those of you who prefer a traditional neckline, this is a great alternative.

Classic shirts are very easy to style and the same can be said about this one. To begin, closely consider the occasion. Are you attending a bridal shower, brunch, or afternoon tea? If you answered yes to any of the above, I recommend pairing your ruffle shirt with white denim and wedge sandals. For evening wear however, I suggest dressing your top with black denim as seen here. I outfitted myself in this ensemble for dinner and a movie. Dinner was good, but the movie was even better. Have you heard the buzz about Get Out?
