Wash and Condition

Biolage has been one of my go-tos since I can remember. It smells devine! However, once I crossed into the dry shampoo era, deep cleaning products became a priority. This Bumble and bumble “Sunday” formula was fine, but I did not feel the need to fill ‘er back up. Last month I was gifted shampoo and conditioner from Living Proof (20% off for Cyber Monday)…I almost included it in a beauty bundle giveaway. I’m glad I didn’t! Suddenly my at-home blowouts last longer. Either I am getting better at doing it myself, the formula is that long-lasting, or it’s a combination of the two. Regardless, I’m happy! Tip: if your hair runs on the oily side, refrain from applying conditioner to your roots.

Post Wash, Pre Dry

I have fine strands of hair, but a lot of ’em! As a result, my hair tangles when it’s wet. I use this product by Garnier Fructis to detangle my hair, eliminate frizz, and protect it from heat. This is a great drugstore find as it is a 3-in-1 and only $4. When I am craving volume, I apply this volumizing mousse (30% off with code CYBERGLAM) to my roots after I’ve brushed out my wet hair with a wide-tooth comb.

Hair Dryer/Blow Dyer

I’ve tried many hair dryers over the years. From Revlon, Chi (until it literally exploded on me), to T3, but I am not convinced that high-end devices yield better results. At least for my hair type! I never travel with a hair dryer, and I can’t say I’m unhappy with my hotel room blowouts. Instead, it is the brush that matters, and luckily it won’t take up too much room in your suitcase! I use this round brush. But since we are on the topic of hairdryers, this model by T3 is what I currently use. I like it because it is not an eyesore on my bathroom counter, it has three heat and two speed setting options, as well as a “lock-in cool shot button.”  

Curls and Beyond

It is human nature to want what we can’t have. So when I’m “over” my stick straight hair, I curl it! But before applying heat, I use this heat styling spray (it can be used on dry OR wet hair!). I have the best luck with Conair curling wands and the T3 singlepass curling iron. For whatever reason, tapered barrels do not work for my hair type. In between washes, this is the holy grail product. Four day old hair has never looked so good! Tip: for luscious beach waves, curl your hair away from your face, wait for the curls to cool, then finger comb your hair or gently brush through the ends with your round brush. The Party

We like to party…we like we like to party! From cupcakes and cocktails, to killer outfits and fancy hair-dos, we shopped, we sipped, and we mingled. It was SO fun to meet the girls behind the Insta in real life. I am so appreciative of the ladies who traveled near and far to support me and the event! A special shoutout is in order to all of the Latina ladies who came out – I loved meeting each and every one of you!

The Outfit

Color is the way to my heart. It genuinely lifts my mood. When I laid eyes on the color block designs, it was a done deal. I had to have a piece of my own! I ended up choosing the pullover top, but this vibrant pattern is also available in a body con midi dress, and a pleated midi skirt. Although the dress was a close second, the top gave me the opportunity to incorporate another color into the ensemble – insert “bright poppy” shorts! These little things fit perfectly, are not too short, and so very flattering on the legs. I highly recommend adding a pair to your spring wardrobe!

NYFW

The hamster metaphor sounds funny, but it really is the perfect depiction. From the moment you commit to going, the wheel starts rotating. Perhaps you’re going a steady speed as you outfit plan, reach out to brands/PR agencies, then catch a breather as you wait hope for invitations to come. Then, from the moment you touchdown in NYC, it’s GO GO GO! You are running around to Fashion Shows, putting your best foot forward at brand meetings, and connecting with like-minded people from across the globe. Mind you, you are doing all of this in carefully curated outfits, with freshly primped hair, and high heel shoes! The things we do for “the gram…”

SoHo is Prime Real-estate

If there is one piece of advice I would offer a NYFW rookie it would be this: stay in SoHo! It is already challenging enough trying to get from A to B thanks to NYC traffic (your outfit will not be suitable for the subway stairs!) The last thing you want to do is add to the stressor by securing accommodations far from the action. For your reference, Spring Studios is the main stage. You definitely want to be within ten minutes of here. 11 Howard is my hotel of choice because it is a short Uber ride to the shows, walking distance to restaurants/bars, as well as the shops on Broadway, and nearby a plethora of picturesque backdrops.

Make time to Eat

This probably sounds like common sense but JUST DO IT. Happy is prettier than hangry…and we want to look good in our photos! The days go by fast and when you’re busy it is easy to forget to eat. Photoshoots

If it is at all possible to bring a photographer with you, rather than hiring one by the hour, DO IT. I felt much more relaxed while taking photos with our “live in” photographer each day before the madness. This might be considered a luxury, so consider this cost effective option if it’s out of the question. Hire a photographer to shoot your daily looks but have them meet you outside of Spring Studios or the location of your meetings. Ask him or her if they will shoot with your camera card and then edit your own pics. This will take turnaround time out of the equation and you won’t feel so rushed. Let’s get real, we want to be able to post our #ootd pics in a timely manner!

Have Fun

Most importantly, have fun! NYFW is seven days devoted to fashion and style. Despite the chaos and exhaustion it is important to keep things in perspective. Two weeks ago Jonathan treated the infamous dark circles under my eyes, and for the first time in my adult life I do not need to wear concealer to appear well-rested! I am happy to report it now only takes 35 minutes. That is 25 minutes I can spend eating breakfast or enjoying a cup of tea that I did not have before.
