A couple of days ago on Instagram, I asked you if you knew your “love language.” This is not my original idea by any means…rather it is derived from author Gary Chapman’s book, The 5 Love Languages: The Secret to Love that Lasts. The idea is, once you and your partner learn each others love languages (i.e., the capacity in which you prefer to receive love), you can better nourish your relationship. Sounds like a reasonable theory, right?! And according to the 15,000 5-star reviews on Amazon, I am not the only one who thinks so! I remember first hearing about this from a college friend at least 10 years ago. Ironically enough, Wednesday was my first time taking the “love quiz!” Although 14 years apart, and from very different backgrounds, Jonathan and I are very alike. This is the best and most challenging part of our relationship. We are almost always on the same page, have the same reactions to situations and conversations and enjoy many of the same activities. So when we don’t see eye to eye our collective stubbornness…well I’ll let you imagine how that goes! Anyway, I took the quiz and was […]

Are you looking for hearty healthy meals that are easy to make but equally delicious?! If you answered yes to this question then bookmark this page for a cold raw night. Minestrone soup…yummm. I discovered this recipe from one of my favorite foodies, Wholesomelicious. Amy serves up many nutritious low-fat meals, many of which are gluten free or Whole 30 compliant. We don’t follow either of these diets at #ClubKaplan, but excluding pork and shellfish, many Whole 30 meals are Kosher. Without further adieu, introducing my favorite short cut minestrone soup. Shortcut Minestrone Ingredients: 1 lb ground beef or turkey 2 tablespoons Italian seasoning 1 medium onion 3 cloves garlic 2-3 peeled carrots 2 stalks celery 1 can diced tomatoes 5 cups chicken broth 1/4 cup red wine vinegar 2-3 tablespoons olive oil 1 package fresh spinach (optional) 1 cup orzo (optional) Directions: Begin by prepping veggies. Dice onion, mince garlic, and chop carrots, and celery. Next pour tablespoon oil in skillet and cook ground beef or turkey until no longer pink. This recipe technically calls for meatballs but ain’t no body for time for that and it’s just as good without ‘em. Add Italian spices as well as […]
Where do you prefer to work? A coffee shop, the office, or perhaps your own home office? We all operate differently…some people thrive on the camaraderie that is associated with a traditional office setting. Some of us are more productive from our at-home dedicated work space. I am the most productive when I work from my desk in my home office! Today I am sharing with you how I transformed a small 10×10 room into an inspirational fashion haven! White and Gold I spend a lot of time in my office writing and editing photos for my blog. It is in this very room where I dream up outfits, plan content, and find inspiration for future projects. The white and gold color scheme is very intentional…it mimics a blank canvas! I find I am the most creative when I eliminate clutter. A clean white desk with enough space for only the essentials was my priority! Aside from writing articles and posing for pictures, it is also my job to receive and process shipments. Call me the box lady! I receive several packages a week and need somewhere to store my wares. Fortunately this room had a great closet […]
32 years old, young TODAY. Traditionally on my birthday I like to share some fun facts accompanied by a quintessential quirky outfit! This article is sort of like that, but perhaps a bit more heartfelt. Last November I had the pleasure of sharing my adoption story during a television segment on Univision. It was very special. Not only did my mom accompany me on TV, but I had the unique opportunity to recite my story in my native language, Spanish. 32 January 4ths ago, my 16-year-old biological mother gave birth to me. She named me Marina and very courageously gave me up for adoption. I was cared for for the first five months of my life at Los Pisingos orphanage in Bogota, Colombia – my city of birth. My mom tells me each baby received incredible one-on-one around the clock care. We were even fed home made (Spanish-style) baby food. I practically came out of the womb with a plantain addiction! Mom & Dad My adoptive parents (this is the only time I am going to refer to them as that because they were put on this earth to be my parents – we might as well share blood) are […]
